The Playground of Angels

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to share some news about the playground with you all. As part of the LTBK award, we had to decide on a name for the playground that either represented a fallen soldier, a fallen first responder or local hero. After talking with the families involved and getting their permission we have decided to call the playground "The Playground of Angels." We are dedicating the new playground to four angels that unfortunately didn't have enough time to play here on earth. They are: Tony Critch, Kenny Kerfont, Aaron Oake, and Destiny Regular. For those of you that knew these angels, you surely understand why we would like to honor these four former students of Hillside Elementary and Cape John Collegiate. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to their families for allowing us to choose them as our heroes. When we started this project, our goal was to build a community gathering spot, which is one of our desired outcomes. We wanted to create a place where all residents, young and old alike, could become active in a safe, caring environment. Added to that, we felt it was important to have a place to sit quietly and remember the children that can`t play here; those four students who touched our lives for such as short time but will live in our hearts forever. Again, we would like to thank the families of Tony, Kenny, Aaron and Destiny for allowing us the privilege of dedicating our new community playground after their loved ones.
Thank you ALL for supporting our project and for understanding why it is so important to us.

Three More Weeks till Build Day

Wow, after another wonderful fundraiser in our town, we raised $640 towards the new playground. The weather was great, the food was delicious and the people were spectacular. We would really like to say thank you to everyone who came out to help, and to all the students who showed up, especially those of you on our committee. We know there was somewhere else you probably wanted to be on such a nice day but you all chose to help out instead.  A great bunch of students who already know so much about civic responsibility and giving back. This has been a wonderful learning experience for them and I am so proud to be a part of this project with them. There's a saying that goes like this " It takes a village to raise a child" but  I believe that sometimes it takes a child to raise a village. Children are honest, and real, and we need to have more faith in them. The kids that cleaned those vehicles today have taught me that giving a little means a lot.
In three short weeks, we will be having our very own Build Day. Right now, money wise we are just over the halfway mark of our goal. Since February, when we started fundraising, I never once doubted that we would meet our goal. Now with just three weeks left, I am starting to wonder BUT I still believe that we will reach our goal. The students of our schools chose the new playground and fitness park equipment, and I really want to give them what they picked during Dotmocracy. Have faith...it's a wonderful thing. This project is a wonderful thing and we are so looking forward to Build Day, June 16, 2012.
We hope to see you there.
Again THANK YOU to everyone.

More Thank You's: Cold Plate Sale

A few Thank you's: 1. To everyone who donated something and cooked food for our Cold Plate sale, we THANK YOU. 2. We would like to take this opportunity to say a GIGANTIC THANK YOU to all the ladies who called around for orders, who helped cut out our cold plates, deliver them and clean up. 3. We would also like to say a very BIG THANK YOU to everyone who bought them and showed their support. Especially those of you that may not have gotten any ham, that was our mistake and we are sorry. The ladies cut out around 850 plates and every last one of them sold. The total amount raised will be counted tomorrow but it looks like it will be close to another $4000 for the playground. AWESOME, just AWESOME. As always, we really appreciate your continued support. A reminder to check back tomorrow as we will be drawing for the Hand stitched quilt.
Thank you, all.

Another successful Fundraiser

The weather may not have been as springy as we would have hope but the residents of La Scie and surrounding communities certainly showed their support during our BBQ fundraiser this past Friday. The volunteers worked extremely hard and cooked a delicious meal of hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade fries. We would like to take this opportunity to say a very BIG THANK YOU to all the ladies and gentlemen that helped out. We would also like to thank the students who came and helped with the Toll Booth, they brought in $479. Awesome support! Another thank you to Gene and Cindy Gray who provided us with their building for the event, you kindness is greatly appreciated.
To everyone who donated supplies for this BBQ, we thank you. Without the support of of communities we are not able to do this.

Below are just two of the reason we started this project.

Helping is appreciated at any age! Thank you to all involved.
